Jim Parsons, or the return of High Comedy

(Warning: geek content)

I found Jim Parsons at a critical moment, I had lost hope for comedy shows and it had been years that I was not fascinated for anything on TV.  Then he entered the scene and I realized that I could reconcile myself with TV acting, or at least give it another chance. This guy is so talented and a Golden Globe Award and an Emmy Award for the best comedy actor support my argument. Apparently he appeared from nowhere, but I read that he is MA in Arts and has large experience in theater. This academic background provided him knowledge on the classics, I knew this before looking for information about his career, and I was right. That’s what I love about Jim Parsons, the way he acts Sheldon reminds me of the old classic comedies, sarcasm and irony is implied in long complex monologs that Parsons smartly interpret by caring every single detail; he perfectly controls every part of his body, his movements, the way he walks, and the way he exaggerates every gesture. Mockery is implied in Sheldon’s character, a scientist with Asperger Syndrome who explains everything through scientific evidences. That’s what makes the character so attractive; people expect him to overcome his syndrome, to become a human and feel love or any other kind of affections.  It’s a perfect satire of us, anti-social and egocentric human beings.

So we have an attractive story, intelligent dialogs, smart humour, best acting. Cast is absolutely fantastic, being Jim Parsons my discovery of the year. He has been nominated for a second Emmy Award for the best comedy actor, together with Mr. Galecky, but I personally think that Parsons really deserve the award again.
